Cunningham-sensei explains how these 8 techniques expand upon the basic principles which drive the 8 Dai Ikkyo ("first teachings") techniques. Beyond the simple, binding action of the throws in the first set, Dai Nikyo techniques are characterized by another level of power generation involving greater sophistication of body mechanics and control. Cunningham -sensei highlights some of the important relationships between Dai Ikkyo and Dai Nikyo in the Go Kyo No Waza, setting the stage for more advanced study.
